From the beginning of the XXᵉ century, Jean Brusselmans developed an original and daring body of work, going against the grain of the artistic trends of his time, while remaining firmly rooted in the pictorial tradition. The exhibition at Bozar will bring together some 120 works, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in his unique universe, at the crossroads of abstraction and figuration. Dialogues with contemporaries such as Fernand Léger, Constant Permeke, Giorgio Morandi and Piet Mondriaan offer a fresh perspective on his work. The first major retrospective devoted to Brusselmans since 1980. A catalog will be published by Bozar Books and Mercatorfonds, in Dutch and French, in which the work will be included.
