Paul Delvaux (1897-1994). Indian ink drawing, wash. - Lot 250
Paul Delvaux (1897-1994). Indian ink drawing, wash. The Spitzner Museum cash desk. 1932. Signed. Purchased by the previous owner in June 1994. Dimensions : H 30,5 x 22cm Thanks to CAMILLE BRASSEUR DIRECTOR - FOUNDATION PAUL DELVAUX MUSEUM La Caissière du Musée Spitzner, ca 1932 This lovely drawing illustrates how Delvaux uses paper to appropriate a theme and develop it further. Here, the artist focuses on the figure of the cashier, linked to the world of the Spitzner Museum as he liked to describe it. This Indian ink study echoes the famous painting Sleeping Venus I - in its first version, dated 1932 - in which she is shown not from the front, but in profile. The PAUL DELVAUX FOUNDATION, created in 1979, looks after the artist's interests in accordance with the wishes of the painter himself, who bequeathed his collections, archives and copyright to the Foundation. It contributes to a better understanding of the artist's work by conducting research and initiating or participating in projects aimed at the general public, both in Belgium and abroad. Under its aegis, the Paul Delvaux Museum in St. Idesbald (1982) and the Authentication Committee, made up of specialists in the work, have been set up. They meet twice a year to issue opinions or certificates of authenticity. To submit a request for authentication, please send an e-mail to authentification@delvauxmuseum.be
