ARSALL (glassworks active from 1918 to 1938 in Germany) sign - Lot 53
ARSALL (glassworks active from 1918 to 1938 in Germany) signed. Art nouveau. Circa 1920. Acid-etched vase on a pink ground. Decorations of mauve irises and green leaves. H 25 cm. In early 1918, the Vereinigte Lausitzer Glaswerke (VLG) applied for trademark protection for the Arsall signature. Registration was made on May 10, 1918, renewed after 10 years on March 15, 1928, and withdrawn after expiry of the protection period on August 9, 1938. Following in the footsteps of French artist Émile Gallé [ 1 ], and the École de Nancy he founded in 1901, design glass began to be manufactured in 1918 in the then village of Weißwasser, which became the world's largest producer of glass, producing the "Arsall" trademark.
